Dance Classes
We teach a wide variety of dance subjects including ISTD Ballet, Tap, Modern, National, Contemporary, Street Dance and Musical Theatre.
We take children from 2 and a 1/2 years old through to 19 years old. Our classes are taught by Miss Jenna. We aim to help each child fulfil their potential in a caring yet disciplined environment. We encourage all students to have fun and to express themselves through dance.
All students have the opportunity to take ISTD dance examinations.
There are regular performance opportunities.
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all dance; the building blocks of a dancer's strength, flexibility and balance. At Performers, we understand how taking ballet instills self confidence, self discipline, poise and grace. To learn ballet is to learn elegance, posture and co-ordination. From Matthew Bourne to Billy Elliot, ballet is everywhere.
Tap
Tap is rhythm. Tap turns you into the percussive instrument. Tap is Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Stomp and Tom Chambers. Tap is very, very cool. At Performers we specialise in American tap. American tap is the foundation of the ISTD Tap syallbus. It teaches a technique that promotes the highest level of rhythm. We are one of the first schools in the country to introduce American Tap.
Modern Dance
If Ballet gives a strong core, discipline and elegance to a dancer, modern dance is the stem from which all other dances grow. It unlocks the imagination and allows the dancer to become creative. Modern dance is the perfect compliment to the stricter and more defined movements of ballet. It uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. Here the dancer begins to create!
Street Dance
Street Dance is the most popular and fastest growing dance style in the world. From commercial jazz to popping and locking (Diversity) or sliding and gliding (Usher), come and be part of our Crew. Learn the best and the newest moves around and make up some of your own!
National Dance
National Dance should really be called International Dance. This class covers traditional dances from each European country. Here you learn the history, geography and culture of Europe and how this has translated into dance. A whistle stop tour of the world's most diverse and intriguing continent.
Musical Theatre
From Wicked and Dreamboats and Petticoats to Oliver and Guys and Dolls come and live the musicals at Performers. Focused mainly on dance but including some aspects of script and singing, learn the exact West End and Broadway choreography from the greatest shows the world has ever seen. Our Dance Department have taught students currently appearing in the West End productions of Matilda and Billy Elliot. We also host regular masterclasses with a West End Choreographer.
